For anyone undecided on which mattress tension to choose, Eve Sleep’s The Wunderflip Premium Hybrid Mattress offers a promising solution. The flippable hybrid mattress comes with both a medium-firm and softer side to sleep on, which can be changed to suit your preference. Its base includes ‘Reactive’ springs that are firmer on one side and softer at the other. To switch tensions, it’s a matter of unzipping the foam and spring top layer and placing it on the side you want to sleep on. It’s easy to identify the sides as they are labelled soft side and firm side.
During the two months I spent testing this mattress, I tried both sides to find the tension that offered the best pressure relief and bounce back. I was impressed with the craftsmanship of this mattress as it has a good quality finish and stitching. It shapes quickly after opening and was easy to set up. As a side and back sleeper with a partner who is a front sleeper, we both preferred the firmer side that offered better motion isolation and aligned our spines effectively.
Overall, I would say that this mattress is a good option if you like a soft to medium-firm mattress to sleep on as even on the firmer side it felt more medium-firm. Here I explain more about its design, edge support and how easy it is to share with a partner without being disturbed.

Eve Sleep sells a wide range of hybrid and foam mattresses online for UK and Europe. Priced from £1,099, The Wunderflip Premium Hybrid Sleep Mattress is one of Eve Sleep’s more expensive mattresses. It currently comes in three sizes and you can expect to pay the following:
- Double (UK): £1,099.
- King (UK): £1,199.
- Super king (UK): £1,299
At the time of writing, there are four hybrid Wunderflip designs to choose from including the more expensive The Wunderflip Ultimate Hybrid Sleep Mattress, which is priced from £1,199 for a double (but has 50% off at the time of writing, making it a much better buy). It’s similar in construction to the Premium and has four layers of foam including a latex layer, but includes 3,000 pocket springs and micro pocket springs as opposed to 2,500.
For an entry level Wunderflip design, there’s also The Wunderflip Lighter Hybrid Mattress (from £269), which comes with three layers of foam and 1,000 springs in its 25cm depth design. Spend a little more for the standard The Wunderflip Hybrid Mattress (from £359), which at 27cm is a centimetre shorter than the Premium design and comes with three layers of foam and 1,850 springs.

The Wunderflip Premium Hybrid 28cm mattress is made up of part foam and part springs. It has a smooth top cover constructed of deep quilted fabric treated with Allergy UK certified Purotex+ to reduce dust mites and other nasties by up to 96.9%. The core beneath this zippable top cover includes a mix of memory foam, tall pocket springs and micro-springs and is structured with a firmer side and a softer side.

What sets the Wunderflip apart from other designs we’ve included in our best hybrid mattress guide is that it has two sides with different firmness levels. It comes with a removable top cover that can be zipped on and off and added to a flippable base with a soft and firmer side. The mattress has eight layers and is packed with 1,000 full height springs that are softer on one side and firmer on the other.
The first night sleeping on the softer side of this mattress, it felt a little too cushioned for my liking. While its pocket springs offer good bounce back, as a side and back sleeper who prefers a firm mattress it just didn’t have the firmness that I’ve become accustomed to over the years. My partner who is a front sleeper also tried the mattress and agreed that he’d prefer a firmer support. We switched to the firmer side for the rest of the trial period and found it much more agreeable.
As a result, I rate the firmer side as 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, with one before the softest and 10 being the firmest. On its softer side I’d give it 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

I trialled a king size version of The Wunderflip Premium Hybrid Sleep Mattress over the course of two months during the autumn/winter months. I tested it in all major areas of performance, motion isolation, edge support, cooling and ease of setup. While it’s hard to say how this mattress will fare over time, its 200-night trial and 10-year warranty is a great backup.
Setup
The king size version of The Wunderflip Premium Hybrid Sleep Mattress weighs around 60 kg once unboxed and expanded. The mattress comes rolled up and vacuum sealed and is compact enough to be transported in the back of a car if needed.
When the mattress arrived, the Eve delivery team carried it up the stairs and it looked easy for two people to lift it onto the bed ready for unravelling. It arrives wrapped in substantial Eve-branded plastic that needed to be cut off the mattress for recycling. As soon as the mattress came out of the packaging it started to expand quickly and take shape.

Off-gassing
After unboxing and decompressing, the mattress soon began to fully form. The mattress fully expands in six hours, but it takes around up to 48 hours to settle and reach its full potential.
For peace of mind, it’s good to know that Eve products comply with the British and EU standards and the General Product Safety Directive. The mattress cover fabric is OEKO-TEK certified to meet safe textile standards and the foam used inside the mattress is CertiPUR certified. This label means that it does not contain carcinogens or other harmful nasties.

Pressure relief
A mattress with good pressure relief is integral to the comfort of a mattress. It will allow pressure points such as your shoulders, hips and lower back to sink into the mattress gently while still supporting the rest of your body. I’ve highlighted a good range of mattresses with excellent pressure relief in previous reviews such as the Simba Hybrid Ultra. While this Eve mattress doesn’t offer quite such good pressure relief as the Simba Hybrid Ultra, it is still very effective.
This is all down to the Eve’s 1,000 full height springs that are enhanced with layers of pressure-relieving memory foam and latex. This ensures that bony parts of the body such as shoulders and hips gently mould into the mattress to relieve the pressure. Having tried both sides of this adaptive mattress, I think the pressure relief works more effectively on firmer side as it ensured myself and my partner didn’t wake up with aching shoulders, hips or lower back pain.
I tried sleeping in all positions and found it most comfortable on my side. While the softer side also provided a decent amount of pressure relief, it didn’t feel as supportive in comparison. While sleeping on my back on the firmer side, I felt like the mattress was able to effectively keep my neck and spine aligned although I naturally kept wanting to turn to my side.
To test the pressure relief further, I used an 8kg kettlebell to measure the sinkage. On the firmer side, its sinkage was 3 inches, while on the softer side this was closer to 4 inches illustrating just how much cloud-like comfort you have to play with.

Motion transfer
Good motion technology in a mattress is essential to limit the mattress wobbling when you move or it dipping on one side when your partner gets into bed. This mattress doesn’t manage to disguise movement completely, but it does do a very good job. There was a little movement from side to side when sharing a bed with a restless partner, but not too much to make me feel unstable or disturbed while sleeping.
To illustrate how well it does limit motion from side to side, I conducted a drop test using a 3kg dumbbell weight and an empty wine glass as you can see in the video above. I dropped the weight 25 inches from the glass to simulate someone getting into bed. It stood firm. Next, I dropped it 10 inches away to simulate someone getting out of bed and again it stayed put. So far, so good. I then dropped it from 4 inches away to recreate the feel of someone changing sleep position next to me, but it toppled under the pressure. This indicates that the motion technology is average and having slept on the firmer, more stable side of the mattress I can agree.

Temperature regulation
I’ve tested countless heated blankets and weighted blankets for use on the sofa or my favourite armchair. But when it comes to bedtime I like to keep things simple with a good breathable mattress and cotton bed linen that work together to keep me at a comfortably cool temperature. As a hot sleeper, choosing a hybrid mattress with good airflow and that feels cool to the touch is key.
This mattress was tested during the winter months when room temperatures ranged between 18 and 21 degrees so a thicker Nectar All-Season 10.5 tog duvet was used. During the testing period, I alternated between the 100% cotton sateen Nectar bedding and Luff Sleep SilverLining Organic Bamboo Duvet Set.
Overall, I found the mattress’s breathability impressive and not once did I ever get too hot. I’ll be keen to see how it fares in the winter months, but so far, so good. This is most likely due to the structure of the mattress that includes memory foam with a zoning system that allows it to breathe.

Edge support
Edge support is important – not least to avoid you rolling out of the sides as you sleep. Good edge support makes it easier for you to get in and out of bed and helps to maximise the usable sleeping surface so you can stretch out and enjoy as much of the mattress as possible.
This Eve mattress feels like a good, supportive all-rounder for anyone who likes a medium-firm mattress with deep cushioning, and its edge support is in line with its centre. It doesn’t have the firmest sides I’ve come across as the top layer is rather cushioned, but overall the sides feel solid enough that you can sit without feeling like you’re about to roll off.
To illustrate how much sinkage you get at the sides I used an 8kg weight to measure the sinkage at 3 inches on the firmer side, which is the same amount of sinkage I measured in the centre of the mattress. For context, I measured Nectar Classic’s edge support at 1.5inches (3.8cm), which is a firmer option.

Durability
Two months in from testing this mattress, it has kept its shape well and hasn’t shown any sides of wear and tear. With a good mattress protector covering it, it has kept its box fresh finish and feels as soft and smooth as when it was first unboxed. While it’s hard to predict how it will age over time, its 200-night sleep trial and forever warranty is reason not to worry.

The reviews for this Premium Hybrid Sleep Mattress online are generally positive. Direct on the Eve website, customers have given it a 4.4 out of 5 star rating overall. Customers have pointed out that the firm side is much softer than they expected and feels more like a medium-firm tension over a firm one.
A few customers have preferred to sleep on the softer side, while the majority go for the firmer tension. Some point out that while the mattress has good pressure relief and provides a very comfy cloud-like finish, it is heavy to flip over so you’ll need a couple of hands on board when turning it.

It’s a suitably comfortable mattress for anyone who enjoys sleeping on a soft to medium-firm mattress. It has good motion isolation technology and average side support and is best suited to side and back sleepers.
We found that both sides are on the softer to medium-firm side as opposed to very firm, so if it’s a firm tension you’re after, you may want to consider more solid alternatives and a design with more pocket springs. If cloud-like comfort is your dream, however, this is a mattress you’ll want to try.
