Residential Energy Upgrade: The Government's New Program
The Greek government prepares a ambitious housing energy upgrade program in its context Social Climate Fund, which has a total budget of 5,3 billionThe central axis of the initiative is a redesigned program "I'm saving", which seeks to boost the energy efficiency of households across the country.
This new plan includes subsidies totaling 1,19 billion, with the aim of energy upgrading 62.000 homes in all regions of Greece. This intervention is expected to provide significant relief to many households, especially in times of increased efforts for sustainable development and reduction of energy costs.
Subsidized Interventions: What to Expect
Interested parties will be able to receive subsidies for various necessary interventions, which include:
The rate subsidy can reach 80%, depending on the circumstances and financial situation of each household, making the upgrade accessible to more citizens.
Innovation: Payment via Current Account
One of the most important innovations of the new program is the possibility of gradually paying the household contribution through the electricity bill. This provides significant flexibility for families who cannot pay the lump sum.
More specifically, if a household chooses interventions of 24.800 euro (including VAT), may enjoy a subsidy 19.800 euro, paying only 5.000 euro in installments through the electricity bill.
Reducing Bureaucracy: A News Approach
The new model aims to drastically reduce the bureaucracy that often hindered easy access to subsidies. The government stipulates that the provider will undertake the entire process on behalf of the client, from the initial application to the completion of the work, facilitating the participation of more citizens.
Free Issuance of Energy Performance Certificates
In addition, the program offers 40 million for the free version 200.000 Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs)This initiative is intended primarily for energy-vulnerable households, significantly reducing the cost of issuing the certificate, which is crucial for understanding the energy upgrade needs of the home.
It is the first time that the issuance of PEA is funded arbitrarily, without the requirement of participation in a renovation program, thus facilitating access to more citizens.
Creation of an Energy Support Registry and One-Stop Shops
The planned interventions include the creation of energy support register, with the aim of enhancing access of vulnerable citizens to energy efficiency programs and actions. Also available are 22 million for the establishment of "one-stop shops", which will provide complete information on procedures, applications and programs.
These infrastructures will be particularly useful for citizens who lack the necessary digital skills and need guidance.
Concerns about Delays in Previous Programs
The previous ones "I'm saving" programs have presented serious challenges, mainly due to bureaucracy and delays. These situations have led to the frustration of many owners, as the deadlines for completing work not only on the latest program of 2025, but also of its programs 2021 and 2023 expire within the next few months, after many extensions.
