This pricing strategy marks a departure from Nintendo's previous single pricing model for first-party games and could influence consumer purchasing habits, potentially benefiting digital distribution.
The new pricing structure will begin with "Yoshi and the Mysterious Book," which will be released on May 21. The digital version will cost $60 on the eShop, while the physical version will be $70 at retail.
Previously, first-party games like “Donkey Kong Bananza” and “Pokémon Pokopia” were sold for $70 regardless of format. This pricing adjustment follows a similar strategy implemented in some regions for “Donkey Kong Bananza,” where its digital version was available at a lower price than its physical release in markets including the United Kingdom.
Some physical Switch 2 game cartridges currently only contain game key cards for digital download, rather than the full game data.
